How much time will it take to complete this exercise?
You can spend as much or as little time on it as you’d like. Obviously you’ll get more out of it if you give it the time it deserves. But on average, it should take about 6-8 hours to complete. You don’t have to do it all at once. In fact, you may prefer to spread it out over two or three days.
Does 6-8 hours seem like a lot of time? It all depends on your expectations. Nowadays, anyone can go on-line and find any number of tests, inventories, and other assessments aimed at telling you who you are. Most of them can be completed in less than 20 minutes. Then a computer scores your results and sends a report down the pipeline that supposedly describes you.
Is that report accurate? Is it relevant? Are you willing to base key life decisions on what a computer tells you?
In our experience, quick-turnaround processes tend to have very brief usefulness.
So for once in your life, why not slow down and invest some time in you, to find out once and for all what the core of your personhood is all about? Especially if you’ve had a number of false starts in your career or have ended up hitting the wall as far as where your life is headed. Doesn’t it make sense to pause for a moment and take stock of what you’ve been given you to work with? You will find some much-needed direction if you will.
Another way to think about it is that you may have invested several years and thousands of dollars to learn about some area of specialization. Likewise, you might spend weeks, months, or even years to learn a foreign language or become proficient at golf. Is it really unthinkable to spend a fraction of that amount of time learning about you? What’s more important than that?
Of course, some people decide that it’s just easier to have a professional take them through an assessment of their giftedness, just as they would pay someone to change the oil in their car, do their taxes, or decorate their home.
